The Portlaoise Sleeper Depot is opening its doors this morning.
New technology in the construction of train tracks will be on display at a showcase in Laois this morning.
Hosted by Irish Rail, the event will be held at the organisation’s Sleeper Depot in Portlaoise at 11 o’clock.
The facility employs 110 people, and is responsible for the construction of sleepers, which are the concrete slabs linking two railway tracks.
The purpose of the event is to demonstrate the company’s capabilities in the areas of infrastructure maintenance and renewal, including the utilization of new and emerging technologies to deliver a cost effective, safe and reliable infrastructure.
The event will also give an insight into the application of the signaling systems in the control of train operations.
