Hyderabad: T-Hub, which was set up to draw the best talent from across the country to nurture a vibrant startup ecosystem, has now become a national role model and the next big breakthrough in start-up innovation will come from Hyderabad, chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao said on Tuesday.
Unveiling T-HUB 2.0, which is housed in what is touted as the world’s largest innovation campus in the heart of Hyderabad’s IT hubKCR said, his government wants Telangana to be known as the startup state of India and Hyderabad to be India’s startup capital.
“Today, Telangana’s startup ecosystem is valued as among the top-10 global ecosystems in affordable talent. It’s among the top-15 startup ecosystems across Asia in attracting funds. In 2021, the startup ecosystem of Telangana was valued at $4.8 billion,” the CM said, rattling off figures that attest Telangana’s success in the startup and innovation sphere.
Pointing out that T-HUB has impacted over 2,000 entrepreneurs and raised nearly $1.2 billion in funding by its startups since it was set up seven years ago, the CM said, his government created a world-class entity at T-HUB to promote entrepreneurship and Innovation and Telangana truly embodies the “whole of the state approach” where all stakeholders synergise their activities to support innovation and entrepreneurship.
The chief minister also pointed out that the first phase of T-HUB showed there was a huge appetite for entrepreneurship among the youth. “We felt we must capitalize on this appetite and provide them with best support from startup stakeholders and give them a space for high-quality incubation and acceleration. Our aim is to incubate the next generation startups that would one day be strong pillars for our economy , he said.
According to KCR, at a time when the country is weeks away from celebrating its 75th Independence Day, it was important to have a clear vision and roadmap about its future, especially the youth.
“Young India is an aspirational India. It wants to be challenged and seeks to compete globally. Our government recognised this aspirational India early and wanted to put young India on the global map. We wanted to build an India, known equally for its entrepreneurial and technology capabilities,” the CM said.
Speaking on the occasion, T-HUB CEO M Srinivas Rao said T-HUB has emerged as a successful role model not just for other Indian states, but for developing countries too. “We have done the hard work in creating a global brand name. Now there is a pan-India mandate, a global mandate that we are working on. We want to democratize what we have done across India. We have already started engaging the government of Odisha to set up an O-HUB. We are also in conversation with two other state governments that approached us. We are in conversation with the governments of Bangladesh, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan to replicate what we have done here,” Rao said.
